Alaskan Yup'ik Eskimo made & carved Walrus Tusk Ivory
Carved Walrus: 4" long x 1 1/4" tall at Tusk x 7/8" wide
Mammoth Bone Stand: 2 1/2long x 1 1/2"wide x 3/4" deep
Total height w/ stand and Baleen Whale rod: 2 1/2" tall
Native Inuit / Eskimo hand carving & work created sometime before 1970.
Hand carved in Gambell, St, Lawrence Island, by local Yup'ik carvers, I have the original paper work on the Artist and will send them!
All the old Ivory used in these carvings are from ancient buried sources, found on the beaches and dug from ancient tribal dump sites.
For a piece of Ivory or bone to get this kind of look it must be 10,000 plus years old.
This is a wonderful way for Native people to have a home business, to support families on what the land offers to them.
